Are you denying Jesus?

When I think about my life and all that I’ve come through, I know without a doubt, that God has been on my side. He has delivered me and provided for me, even when I had no clue how things would come together. He has saved my soul from the pit of sadness and despondency and given me joy that knows no bounds.

I know that you can say the same, if you truly believe that Jesus is the son of God. There is no limit to the things you can do in the name of Jesus.

You have been called, as is said in Isaiah 61.

The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me,

because the Lord has anointed me

to proclaim good news to the poor.

He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,

to proclaim freedom for the captives

and release from darkness for the prisoners,[a]

2 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor

and the day of vengeance of our God,

to comfort all who mourn,

3     and provide for those who grieve in Zion—

to bestow on them a crown of beauty

   instead of ashes,

the oil of joy

   instead of mourning,

and a garment of praise

instead of a spirit of despair.

The Prophet Isaiah is often called the New Testament prophet because He had incredible revelation of things that were unheard of. What? The Spirit of God has come upon you? Who are you?

But although He saw things that were to come in centuries, He spoke the word boldly. He prophesied about the Messiah Jesus Christ. And Jesus came and fulfilled all of that prophecy, even quoting Isaiah in Luke 4: 17-21

and the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. Unrolling it, he found the place where it is written:

18 “The Spirit of the Lord is on me,

   because he has anointed me

to proclaim good news to the poor.

He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners

and recovery of sight for the blind,

to set the oppressed free,

19     to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”[a]

20 Then he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant and sat down. The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fastened on him. 21 He began by saying to them, “Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.”

Yet the bible says in John 14:12  that if we believe in Jesus, “greater works than these shall you do.”

With all this assurance, all this encouragement, all this knowledge, why are we so afraid of saying the truth by the Bible and standing on it? Why are so many Christians so easily swayed by false doctrines, why are we now so extreme in our beliefs?

What happened to saying the truth in love?

What happened to speaking the word of God in boldness?

The bible states in Matthew 9 that the “harvest is plentiful but the laborers are few.” Concurrently, the bible states in several places that the harvest is ripe, and has been handed to us.

We only have to open our mouths and proclaim the good news that Jesus saves. Yet, so many of us refuse to do so.

Are you guilty? Restitute your ways today.

If you were to recall all that has happened to you in this your below 24 life so far, then I could be sure that you would have many things to share. But it does not matter. BECUASE I KNOW THAT THE MIRACLES IN YOUR EARLY LIFE FAR OUT WEIGH WHAT YOU NOW THINK IS GREAT IN YOUR LIFE.

I am sure you don’t remember that you were once in an incubator, taken in a glass shade every day to the early morning and dying evening sweet sun rays, so you might survive right from the first day of your birth. I don’t remember keeping the polaroid pictures of you in that hospital ‘basket’.

Nor would you be able to describe how, when at age, was it below 15 or so, you were administered adult dose of strong anti-biotic which, after the usual OS sign on your prescribed drug card, i personally gave a night duty nurse money to go fetch that particular drug from her home, so you could have the opportunity of having it, and not die in the excruciating pains that you were in that hospital ward. And the doctor who prescribed the drug said you were 18 or above. You were never so. And we initially thanked the nurse for fetching the killer drug. And after it was administered on you following the doctor’s prescription, know what, we had all gone home save your mother.

Then there was this unusual early morning call from your mother for praise and worship for what the Lord had done for us with you as a vehicle on the night in question. Long night. Alas! patients in the ward swarmed on me, on getting near the ward that early morning, to know how faithful my nuclear family was that God so loved us. What is it? i inquired. But you were mildly still asleep and your mother was lost in praise songs even forgetting she was in hospital ward. The culprit night nurse appeared to me and simply asked… but oga, how old is your daughter? 18 or 20? I did not understand initially.

Ah! I was told by the nurse, now in tears, that the doctor that saw you had over prescribed for your age. And the injection drug not being available in the drug store, she compounded the issue by unknowingly bringing an expired version of the drug… And i physically paid her for it without a receipt nor refund. A triangle of woos. And you, small Alheri, were the sufferer of all the errors. You entire body had balloned out late in the night as a result of the contaminated, expired, over-dosed injection. How God works!

Jesus came to the ward, like, physically and took over the command. Every patient and their watchers all were crying to God to rest your soul. You were dying out! Three doctors came. The senior matron was there. All of them, attending to you, nay, watching you die out, slowly. Would you survive? What will they tell the father? Your mother literally lost out, not knowing any other thing but prayer and supplication. You were said to have been placed on mixed drips, running fast. Till date the head doctor said you were a miracle child. Which drug revived you?

Excellent as you may be writing, you will certainly not know exactly how to put this episode. You more or less died and came back. God has really shown you love and showered you with so many graces.

Alheri, your few years on earth are full of mysteries and miracles. God’s radiance upon you is great.

Next time I will tell you how in nursery two or primary one or so you fell at Danbo School staircase in the morning hours and your head was so swollen, you were mistaken for possible internal bleeding at our staff clinic where i took you to. And I will tell you how at 4 you encountered armed robbers who invaded our expansive house 2.45am in Barnawa GRA during the initial stages of the sectarian riots in Kaduna, whence you insisted you wanted to see how the robbers would kill me, your father. You were following them to my room and talking aloud in your infantile voice! Not all of us were significantly hurt. But Evans’ baby box with all his napkins, diapers and baby clothes together with your mummy’s box of Hollandais cloths were all dragged away by the robbers in our physical glare. You escaped unhurt in all of these. Only by God’s grace!

So your opening sentence, “When I think about my life and all that I’ve come through,………. i know that God has been on my side” is very apt. For which ever combination of two years you choose in your life to date, there will be lots of experiential stories to share. Right from day 1 of your birth you have just been a mystery. An example of miraculous healing.

And when i reminiscent over it all, your life this far, that is, I remain convinced we’re all not yet serving God to the fullness He deserves of us. I pray for His graces upon us and that we shall be strong, bold and enduring to serve him through Christ our Lord. Amen.
